Henri Matisse Shape Sculptures
Check out the incredible sculptures created by some of the 3rd grade artists!
In this project, the 3rd grade artists learned about the artist
Henri Matisse. Henri Matisse was a
French artist, known for his use of color
and shape.
In class, we discussed the two different types
of shapes, organic and
geometric. After choosing one kind of shape to draw, students cut out their
shapes from construction paper. Then using an armature (framework on which a sculpture is
molded) the students used paper mache to create their bowl sculptures. The
students had a choice to create a bowl on a table, a hanging planter bowl, or a
chandelier-like bowl. Some even wore their sculptures as hats!
