Fourth grade - Radial Mandala

Radial Mandala

Displayed are some of the amazing artworks created by the 4th grade students!

In this project students focused on one of the elements of art, space. In art there are two kinds of space: one positive and one negative. Positive space is the object in focus. Negative space is the space around the object that helps define the shape. Additionally, students discussed and used radial symmetry in their artworks. Radial symmetry is simply defined as repeating sections of line, color, or shape that originate from the center outward.

In this project students used their name or simple designs to create radially symmetrical drawings . Students examined how the letters of their names or aspects of their designs connected to create new areas of positive space.
